Olisa Ifeajika, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, said on Wednesday that the state government gives equal attention to all sectors of the state’s economy.

Ifeanjika who said at a media chat in Asaba, explained that Okowa said would finish his tenure strong in all sectors including roads, education, health, hospitality and entertainment industry, agriculture and job creation.

He said though the governor had done well in roads and bridges construction, he had also made great impact in other sectors of the economy.

Ifeajika said Okowa’s administration would bring all the sectors to the same level of attention as road roads, bridges and drainage construction where it had done well.

Some of the achievements include a new secretariat named “Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien Secretariat” after the Asagba of Asaba, the traditional rulers’ secretariat, the three new universities and the film village and leisure park.

“The governor has named the new secretariat after the Asagba of Asaba, which by the grace of God, would be inaugurated by the Vice President of Nigeria on Monday, Nov. 29 2021.

“The person the Secretariat is named after, and the personality chosen to inaugurate it, shows that there is a lot of premium attached to that structure by the governor and his administration.

“We also have the traditional rulers council secretariat. It was out of pragmatism and wisdom that the governor built that.

On youths and wealth creation, Ifeajika said the administration had done a lot in the development of human capital resources.

He said that government had through the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP), Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP), Rural Youth Skill Acquisition (RYSA) and Girl Empowerment and Skills Training (GEST) programmes created jobs for the youths.

According to Ifeajika, “the governor has used GEST scheme to capture and empower girls within the age bracket of 18 to 30 years.

“The programme started with the training of 450 girls last year, but because of the huge success it recorded, the governor again increased the number by 100 per cent in the 2021 edition.

“So, we have 900 of them who are undergoing training in the programme this year.

“The governor has also promised that by next year, the number of beneficiaries may be further increased by another 450.
