Avian Influenza: NUJ Warri Sympathizes With Poultry Farmers In Delta
The Nigerian Union Journalists, Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, has sympathised with poultry farmers whose farms were affected by bird Avian lnfluenza otherwise known as bird flu recently in Delta State.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of its congress held on Tuesday August 31 at chapel secretariat, Warri, and signed by Comrade Okies Veeky and Dele Fasan, Chairman and Secretary respectively.
The Union sympathised with poultry farmers particularly Lawal Iyanda Farms, Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government and Oghenejename Farms in Ekrerhavwe in Ughelli North LGA and others affected across the State
The communique, also sympathised with poultry managers and workers whose work may have be affected by the epidemic which causes death of many birds in seven council areas of the state.
The Union expressed fear that the epidemic may lead to food crisis and worsened food shortages across the state and by extension increased the food prices in the country.
The Union therefore called on the Delta State government and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to come to the rescue of the affected poultry farmers. They also called on well meaning Nigerians, corporate organizations to help ameliorate the lost suffered by the poultry farmers.
