Hoodlums Attack Police Checkpoint In Delta, Kill Officer, Set Patrol Vehicle Ablaze
A yet-to-be identified gunmen on Wednesday attacked a police checkpoint in Akwukwu-Igbo, headquarters of the Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
BIGPENNGR gathered that the incident which occurred at about 8: am on Wednesday, left one police officer dead and several others injured.
A police patrol vehicle was however set ablaze by the rampaging hoodlums who were said to have stormed the stop-and-search checkpoint along Otulu-Akwukwu Igbo road wielding dangerous weapons.
Meanwhile, the Police Command in Delta State has confirmed the death of one of its officers, saying that the attackers were hoodlums from the community.
The State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident in a terse message, however said that the ring leader of the hoodlums have been arrested by the command.
“It was an attack perpetrated by some hoodlums from Akwuku-igbo community. They killed one of our personnel, but the good thing is that, the ring leader has been arrested and currently in custody. Investigation is on”, DSP Edafe added.
