Nigeria’s Govt Returns Contention £4.2m Ibori Loot To Delta As State Yet To Confirm Receipt

Mr Ahmed Idris, the Accountant General of the Federation, has revealed that the £4.2 million looted by former Governor James Ibori and recently repatriated by the Federal Government from the United Kingdom had been returned to Delta State Government.

BIGPENNGR understands Idris disclosed this while fielding questions from members of the House of Representatives’ Ad hoc Committee on Assessment and Status of All Recovered Loots Movable and Immovable Assets from 2002 to 2020 by Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for Effective Efficient Management and Utilization on Tuesday in Abuja.

Recalls there have been series of agitations by stakeholders over the Federal Government moves to utilize the fund against the desire of stakeholders and Government of Delta State that the money should be returned to the state’s coffer.

Apparently laying the controversial issue of the utilization of the fund to rest, the Accountant-General said that funds plundered from a state’s treasury are always restored to the state.

According to him, states can sue the federal government to recoup such payments.

Meanwhile, Delta State Government as of Tuesday evening was yet to confirm the receipt of the controversial fund which has been in the front burner for months.
