The newly reelected chairman of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, has called on his opponent to bury the hatchet and join forces with him to move the union forward.

Ikeogwu made the call shortly after he was returned for second term of office in a keenly contested election held at the State Secretariat of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), in Asaba, the state capital.

Addressing newsmen shortly after he was declared winner, Ikeogwu attributes his reelection to every member of the union, saying that in the contest, “there was no victor, no vanquished”.

His words; “I want to commend every member of the NUJ Delta state council for finding me worthy to be elected for the second time and I want to assure them that with this victory I will do my best to reposition the union and take it beyond where it is present.

“We have observed some elapses and those elapses we experienced in my first tenure will be corrected. So I still want to say that clearly, there is no victor, there is no vanquished.

“All of us are one and I want to call on all those who lost in this election to please come and join my exco to move the union forward. Let’s put every acrimony aside, let’s put every anger aside and forge ahead as one united family because that is the only way we can take our pride of place in the scheme of things in the state”.
