UPDATED: Gunmen Attack Prison Van, Free Six Inmates Going To Court

There was apprehension at Barkin Ladi, Plateau state on Thursday as some gunmen believed to be herdsmen attacked a convoy of correctional officials, freeing six criminal suspects.

It was learned that the van conveying 14 suspects charged with crimes ranging from murder to kidnapping and rape, had just arrived the court premises when the gunmen, who had laid ambush by the entrance, opened fire and freed the suspects unchallenged.

According to reports, the Plateau State Commandant of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. S.A. Musa, informed the Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka that the Court did not notify him of a change in hearing date.

Meanwhile, Police have arrested four suspects and recovered two motorcycles believed to belong to the gunmen.
