BREAKING: Gov Akeredolu Tests Positive For COVID-19 As Nigeria Hits 25,133
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has tested positive to the deadly coronavirus (COVID) infection bringing the number of governors who confirmed their COVID-19 status in the country to five.
Besides Akeredolu, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna states had tested positive to the virus and subsequently treated and discharged.
Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu is still battling COVID-19 at an Abuja hospital.
Akeredolu who is seeking reelection ticket of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), next month for the October 10 general elections in the State, confirmed the development on Monday.
BIGPEN reports Ondo currently has 276 confirmed cases, out of which 168 are active, 89 recoveries and 19 deaths, so far.
“Earlier today, I got confirmation of a positive result for Covid-19. I am asymptomatic and not displaying any symptoms. I am currently self-isolating and supervised home management will be administered by the wonderful team at our Infectious Disease Hospital. I ask that we all stay safe and be well”, the governor tweeted.
Meanwhile Nigeria has hit 25,133 cases, 9,402 discharged and 573 deaths recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory after adding 566 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths on Monday.
According to NCDC, the 566 new cases are reported from 20 states. Lagos (166), Oyo (66), Delta (53), Ebonyi (43), Plateau (34), Ondo (32), FCT (26), Ogun (25), Edo (24), Imo (15), Bayelsa (13), Benue (12), Gombe (11), Kano (11), Kaduna (11), Osun (8), Nasarawa (7), Borno (5), Katsina (2), Anambra (2).
