One person died and two others sustained gunshot injuries when suspected political thugs at the weekend invaded the venue of a meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Emu-Unor community in Ndokwa West Local Council of Delta State.

An insider said the gathering, which was held at the premises of one of the political leaders in the community on Friday, was in preparation for the party’s forthcoming ward congress.

The thugs, sources revealed, stormed the venue and started shooting, causing pandemonium in the serene community.

One of them who craved anonymity said: “The thugs came in large numbers with the intention of disrupting the meeting and in the process, they opened fire, but the bullets hit one of the thugs who were identified simply as Onyeka, just as two other persons sustained bullet wounds.”

He said the situation was brought under control by a team of police officers who were on patrol in the area, adding that one of the thugs was arrested, with the body of the deceased deposited in the mortuary.
