Rivers Police Withholds Four Phones, N72,000 Collected From Deceased Auto Mechanic – Source

Officers and men of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the River Police Command, have been accused of theft of phones and cash allegedly collected from the deceased auto mechanic, late Chima Ikwunado, and his colleagues by the police in Rivers.
A source closed to the family of the victims told BIGPEN on Wednesday that the police have kept four phones and part of the cash collected from the deceased to themselves.
The source alleged that the police also cornered N72,000.00 from the N200,000.00 that was reportedly collected from the deceased and his colleagues before his death.
“Out of 9 phones collected by the police from #Ikoku5, the SCID office produced only 5.
“They also produced only N128, 000.00 out of the over N200,000.00 collected from late Chima and his colleagues”, the source said.
Corroborating this, Comrade Phils, a social media influencer and right activist who have been championing the call for justice for Chima, queried the rationale behind the police withholding the phones and part of the cash, saying, “What manner of unprofessional and thievery is this by the police”.
All efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, for comment on this report proved abortion as of press time.
Recall that Chima, a mechanic in Ikokwu, died in the cell at the Mile One Police Station after he was tortured by the police, who arrested him alongside four of his friends, claiming they were cultists.
