Obaseki, Amaechi, Akpabio, Keyamo Boycott APC South-South Caucus Meeting As Omo-Agege Is Named Political Leader

Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, his counterpart in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswil Akpabio as well as Minister for State Labour and Productivity, Olorogun Festus Keyamo on Thursday night peeled away from the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-South Caucus meeting where Deputy President of the senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, was named as political leader of the party in the region.

It was not clear what led to their conspicuous absence from the meeting held at a private office of the National chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole but there have been a subterfuge war between the chieftains of the party over contending issues in Edo state governorship, and who controls the soul of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in the region.

Sources at the meeting disclosed that the crisis in the Edo State chapter of the party, the rumbles besetting the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), crises in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, among others formed part of the discussions at the meeting.

At the end of the deliberations, the caucus in its resolution passed a vote of confidence on the national chairman of the party, Oshiomhole as well as announced Omo-Agege as the new political leader of the caucus in the geopolitical zone.

Hon. Hillard Eta, the Vice National Chairman of the party (South-South), who read the resolution of the meeting, said that the zonal caucus committee also agreed to set up a reconciliation committee to compliment the work of the national reconciliation committee in Rivers, Edo and Cross River states.

“That Distinguish Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has been unanimously chosen as the political leader of the South-South zone.

“That the leadership of the caucus of the South-South zone do unequivocally pass a vote of implicit confidence on the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole”.

However, all the discussions were done in the absence of some of the chieftains of the party who shunned the late night meeting.

Among those who boycotted the meeting were, the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, his counterpart in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswil Akpabio, Minister for State Labour and Productivity, Olorogun Festus Keyamo and the Director General of Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside.

In attendance were Chief Don Etiebet, Senator Ndoma Egba, Senator Ita Enang, Chief Great Ogboru, Chief Umanah Umanah, Senator Omo-Agege, amongst others.
