Armed Robbers Rob Police At Checkpoint, Cart Away Two Rifles In Rivers

Suspected armed robbers on Sunday night dislodged policemen on a checkpoint and made away with two service rifles in Rivers State.
BIGPEN Online understands that the police patrol team were busy conducting stop and search on motorists when the robbers descended on them.
The incident occurred around 7:15pm at Obirikwere junction by Open University, Ozuoba, Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.
An eyewitness who preferred anonymity said that the policemen were busy collecting money from taxi drivers when the armed robbers rounded them up.
“It was sad occurrence for the neighborhood because the policemen were easily rounded up by the dare devils who made away with two guns. It was like wrestling over guns”.
The source said that the unknown gunmen while fleecing the area, released volume of gun shots to scare residents but unfortunately one of the bullet hit a passersby who died instantly before help could come.
State Police Public Relation Officer, Nnamdi Omoni could not be reach for comment on this report as his phone rang out without picking up as of press time.
