Chevron Has Safely Put Out Ojumole Well 1 Fire
Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the joint venture (JV) between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and CNL (NNPC/CNL JV), has confirmed that the fire at the Ojumole Well 1 in Ajegunle-Ikorigho communities in Ilaje local government area of Ondo State has been safely put out.
Ojumole field is in NNPC/CNL JV’s Western Niger Delta area of operations.
Recall that Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), an environmental/ecological think tank and advocacy organisation had criticized Chevron for allowing the fire to spread to other coastal communities but CNL in a statement by GM, Policy, Government and Public Affairs of CNL Esimaje Brikinn on Sunday debunked the claims.
He had said that Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) was currently working with emergency response contractors to safely put out the oil-well fire as quick as possible.
In a statement announcing the development on Monday, Esimaje Brikinn, General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairsz Chevron Nigeria Limited said CNL remains committed to the safety of the communities and the environment in its areas of operation.
“CNL wishes to thank all the stakeholders including the neighboring communities, Ondo State Government, regulatory and security authorities that worked with the NNPC/CNL JV to ensure that the fire incident caused by third party interference, was safely put out.
“Environmental monitoring by accredited independent environmental consultants continues in the area, with support from regulatory agencies. Our employees are also on site, while normal activities are ongoing in the area.
“CNL remains committed to the safety of the communities and the environment in its areas of operation. We continue to conduct our operations safely, reliably and efficiently, with utmost consideration for protection of people and the environment”.
