Lawan Performs First Official Duties As Senate President, Swore In Okorocha, Set Up Ad-hoc Committee

Newly elected President of the Nigerian Senate, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan has swore in Senator-elect, Rocha Okorocha whose swearing in was postponed over his inability to produce his INEC certificate of return.

Okorocha was swore in on Thursday morning at plenary presided over by the Senate President who also set up an ad-hoc committee to work with the management of the National Assembly.

Lawan announced an ad-hoc committee to look into the allocation of seats, arrangement of offices for old and new elected senators as well as accommodation issues for the new elected Senators.

The committee was given two weeks to complete its assignment.

The committee members are: Senator Abubakar kyari Chairman, Senator Aishat Modibo, Gabriel Suswan, Sabi Abdulahi Aliu, Betty Akpiafi, Bassey Apana, Barau Jibril, Ibrahim Goje, Nicholas Tofo, Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, Chukwuka Utazi, and Stella Oduah, all members of the committee.

Consequently, the Senate adjourned sitting to the 2nd of July, 2019.
