A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Delta State, Mr. Paul Odili says Senator Ovie Omo-Agege deserve the senate Presidency in the ninth assembly.

Odili, who was APC’s candidate for Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency in the just concluded national assembly elections, urged the APC to zone the Senate Presidency to the south south.

Odili spoke in Asaba during an interactive session with members of the correspondents’ chapel of the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Specifically, Odili said the party’s NWC should consider Delta State senators for the position of Senate President or Deputy Senate President, saying that Delta State has contributed significantly to the success of the APC at the level.

Besides, he said such legislative position will facilitate the growth of the APC in Delta State ahead of the 2023 general elections and put the party in better stead to defeat the more entrenched Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The journalist turned politician said Delta State deserved to be rewarded by the APC for its significant contribution to the success of the party at the national level.

Odili who was the Communications Manager to former governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, explained that such position will encourage the party to grow rapidly in the state ahead of 2023.

“Ultimately it is about numbers, from 2015 till date there have been significant improvement, in fact across South-South. In spite of the challenges of the APC in Delta, what we actually gave to APC is significantly better, we have really done well for the party.

“We may not have achieved our overall objective to take Delta into the progressive party movement but we have done a lot. I mean the president got over 220,000 votes. I think I will appeal to the president and the national leadership of the APC to encourage us in Delta State.

“There are all kinds of offices especially at the legislative level even appointive offices. If they give to Delta State any of the principal offices particularly in the senate whether the senate president or deputy Senate  president, it will be fair.

“It will actually help this party to grow more in Delta if we have such recognition and  encouragement. In 2023 also, there will be elections. I will appeal to Mr. President to look in that direction. Whether senate president or his deputy coming to Delta State, it will be something to improve the party,” Odili said.

BIGPEN ONLINE recalls Omo-Agege was the senator whom in February alleged a conspiracy by his colleagues against President Muhammadu Buhari, following the decision of the legislature to amend section 25 of the electoral act.

That amendment, which was subsequently rejected by President Buhari, would have altered the sequence of the 2019 general elections.

Omo-Agege representing Delta central will be a ranking senator in the 9th assembly having won a re-election on February 23, 2019 on the platform of the ruling APC.

Besides, Omo-Agege is a staunch supporter of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration since 2015 to the extent of being accused of instigating the alleged removal of the maze while the president was on the verge of being impeached.
