The senator representing the Delta Central Senatorial District at the national Assembly, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, weekend appealed Urhobo ethnic nationality to give President Muhammadu Buhari, the Delta State APC governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, and himself the chance to build on the success stories of the APC-led administration.

Speaking at the Petroleum Training Institution, PTI conference centre, during his “End of Term Report and Scorecard”, Omo-Agege expressed confidence that Buhari, Ogboru and himself alongside all APC candidate would win the 2019 general elections.

“Do not be deceived, Buhari will win again and Urhobo should be part of the success by massively supporting APC and voting for Buhari, Ogboru, myself and indeed for all APC candidates in 2019”, he said.

He added, “It’s important that we are given the chance to build on this success and continue the effort to restore Urhobo greatness. Our future lies in APC, a national party that will give Urhobo the opportunity to be great again.

“Sending me back to the senate as a ranking senator, with President Mahammadu in command in Abuja and Chief Great Ogboru in charge in Asaba will strengthen me to do more for Delta Central and the Urhobo people”,  he enthused.

Omo-Agege, earlier said that his election into the Senate in 2015 was a popular one, driven by the determination of the people to elect their own senator, devoid of imposition and manipulation.

He said that he has done alot to achieve quality representation for Urhobo nation since two years, nine months and 27 days he has been in the senate after the tense legal struggle to reclaim his electoral mandate.

The senator said that within that period,  eleven people-oriented bills were sponsored by him for the general interest of the Urhobo people and Deltans in particular.

According to him, of the 43 federal government projects that he facilitated to Urhobo, 24 projects, representing 55 percent  have been completed, while one is ongoing.

He said during the period, he also empowered 6000 (six thousand) women in 20 markets spread across the 8 Local Government Areas in Delta Central.

In each market, he said 300 women who are engaged in petty trading were chosen and were given N20,000.each to argument their market capacity.

He said that during the 2015 campaign, he made a promise that if given the mandate to the Nigeria Senate, he would work to raise the profile of Urhobo in the politics of state and country and restore its greatness.

“Today, I’m proud that we have kept our promises and upheld our part of the bargain. Whether on the floor of the senate or outside, the Urhobo voice was heard loud and clear and that’s because I refused to be intimidated or cowed”.

He said that that besides sponsoring nine bills and co-sponsored two, as well as attracting 43 federal government funded projects to Delta Central Senatorial District, he has provided strong leadership for Urhobo in the politics of state and country.

Senator Omo-Agege however noted that Urhobo nation drifted from national politics after Chief James Ibori second term in office,  noting that the cost of Urhobo ethnic nationality siding opposition party has been enormous both in terms of economic and political empowerment of its people.

He said that his decision to term up with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC federal government was to restore Urhobo to national greatness.

While thanking the electorates for voting him in 2015, he said, “We have delivered on our promises, and today Delta Central is better positioned to play a strategic role in national politics.

He urged the people, as the nation approach another critical election, to give their maximum support to President Buhari, the Delta State APC governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, to himself and all APC candidates in 2019.

He said that PDP after Ibori’s tenure marginalized the Urhobo ethnic nationality but a repeat vote for the APC government would ensure the continuous effort to restore Urhobo greatness.
