Buhari’s Government Named Jonathan’s Aides, Secondus As Treasury Looters
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has named some of the aides of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan and incumbent National Chairman of opposition party, PDP, Uche Secondus as those who allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.
Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who released the list in a press briefing in Lagos on Friday, clarified that the “treasury looters” were individuals who were officials in the past government.
According to the list, the individuals include PDP chieftains who are currently being tried for corruption and financial crimes.
The minister further enjoined Nigerians to jettison the apology of the party stressing that the PDP looted the treasury dry under their watch.
Mohammed said: “The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This shows the hollowness of their apology.”
He further stated that the decision of the government to release the names of the alleged looters and the funds they allegedly looted was because of the response by the PDP, telling the APC-led government to name those that have destroyed the economy by looting the treasury.
He further stated that this is just a tip of the iceberg and some of the cases are still in court, stressing that the list is not a mere imagination of the APC.
Mohammed said: “They are in court and the records are available. Some of the people on this list are seeking plea bargain and that is a fact.
“We insist that Nigeria was looted blind under the watch of the PDP and that the starting point in tendering an apology is for them to return the loot.”
He further stated that the APC-led government will not stop talking about the alleged looting of the PDP.
He added: “We will not stop talking about the massive looting of the PDP. They brought Nigeria to this sorry pass. We are now looking around for loans to build infrastructure, and they ask us not to talk about it.”
The Eagle Online reports that the list has the current PDP Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, who allegedly according to the list took N200 million on the 19th of February 2015 from the office of the NSA while former PDP financial secretary also allegedly took N600 million from the office of the NSA too.
Former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, is also mentioned for allegedly collecting N1.4 billion also from the office of the NSA and the Chairman of DAAR Communications, Dr Raymond Dokpesi, is also mentioned for allegedly taking N2.1 billion from the office of the NSA too.
Former SSA to former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Dudafa Waripamo-Owei and cousin to former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Robert Azibaola, were also on the list for allegedly keeping N830 million in accounts of four different companies and for allegedly collecting $40 million from the office of the NSA.
