Former Secretary to Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay has debunked speculations making the round that he has struck a deal with All Progressive Congress Governorship hopeful ahead of 2019, Rt Hon Victor Ochei to be his running mate.

Macaulay, a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was Delta state SSG during the tenure of immediate past Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan while Ochei was emeritus Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

BigPen Online reports that while Ochei has since moved to APC where he intend contesting the governorship position come 2019, Macaulay remains a card carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But ‘rumour mongers’ are alleging that Macaulay had concluded plans to dump Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s PDP and pitch tent alongside thousands of his proteges and political groups in Isoko with Ochei in APC where he has been offered a deputy governorship slot.

However, reacting to the purported social media post which is being spread in the state, Macaulay described the insinuations as mere rumour and figment of the writer’s imagination.

The veteran former labour leader said there was neither a meeting nor discussion were such a decision was reached between him and Ochei.

In a statement signed on his behalf by his Press Secretary, Mr Iteveh Ekpokpobe on Wednesday, the former SSG said there was never a time when he “rejected an offer to be Deputy Governor ahead of the 2019 general election” and therefore urged his Isoko people to disregard the said post.

According to him, if there was any offer as it is being speculated, he will be man enough to accept or reject it, assuring his Isoko people that there will be a better package for them come 2019.

“If there was any iota of truth in that publication, it is public knowledge that Chief Ovuozourie Macaulay is man enough to accept it. Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei who was referred to in that publication has not made him any such offer. So be rest assured that he is in the struggle to rescue Isoko people, and believes strongly in the Isoko project.

Macaulay noted that in as much as he is hundred percent in agreement with “the struggle to return Isoko from a downgrade by the incumbent government”, accepting a lie to trend in his name will not be part of the rescue mission”.

Continuing, he said, “This rescue mission, however, must be hinged on facts reached by parties not imagination of an individual. Can you imagine a situation where Ochei comes out to say he never made such offer to him? And the extent of damage that can be to his political career?

He however warned mischief makers from spreading unnecessary rumours about political figures in the state, saying that as an Isoko man, he will never let his people down but strongly believes in God that something good will come the Isoko way.
