2019: Pro-Okowa’s Group Seeks To Unseat Rep Minority Leader, Ogor, Sensitized His Isoko Constituents
A group under the auspices of “Isoko Nation Renew Okowa’s Mandate” has commenced plans to discouraged constituents of member Representing Isoko Federal Constituency and Minority Leader, Hon Leo Ogor from aligning with him in case he intends going back to the green chambers come 2019.
Director General of the Group, Mr. Sunday Onyewonsa who led other members of the group to a “One Day Sensitization Workshop” held at James Ekpre Otobo hall in Isoko South Local Government Council’s Secretariat, said that the campaign was necessary in view of the fact that Ogor had maintained good 12 years in the green chamber with little or no meaningful development to show for it.
According to him, Isoko people deserved to have more than what Ogor has done, urging the people to ask the minority leader to show them the projects he has executed in their land with all the constituency projects he has gotten so far.
Onyewonsa however said that his group which is also rooting for the reelection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for second tenure, has already aligned itself with a United State of America based Nigerian Medical Doctor, Dr. Nelson Oke Aluya whom he said would contest for the House of Representatives Seat in Isoko Federal Constituency come 2019 and deliver quality service to the people of Isoko in Delta State.
According to him, Aluya who is coming under the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has the zeal to serve, and appealed to the Isoko people to support him in his political bid.
He said that the aspirant if elected would build a world class hospital and constituency office so that they (people) can monitor the funds and projects that accrues to them.
“Let us all support him (Aluya) . We will do everything possible to support you too. He is my brand and am selling him to you. We will give you flyers as time goes on to preach the good news.”
Onyewonsa noted that Isoko Nation would have been a “New York” given the allowances for constituency that accrues to the area since May 1999.
He also lamented the gross under development of Isoko land inspite of the mineral deposits in the land.
“Isoko Nation has the largest number of oil well in the whole world. The Oil in Isoko is more than the oil in the whole Kuwait as a country put together. Let us put human sentiment aside, he declares.
Speaking in same vein, Mr. Chukwuemeka Umunna also urged the people to look for a leader who understands their pains and is ready to solve same to take Delta and Isoko Nation to the next level.
Umunna described Dr. Aluya as a man with “proven track records” in America and Nigeria, saying it is time that we move from mediocre representatives to men with the passion, vision and zeal for their people.”
He lamented that the Isoko people have nothing to show as federal project because they have suffered poor representation inspite of the vast available resources in their lands.
Umunna also christened as abysmal and poor the present representation given to the Isoko Nation stressing, “they have toiled with our lives for the past 18 years. We can’t continue like this.”
“People are dying, there are no roads, no jobs, people have not been paid salaries”, saying Isoko need a viable leadership that is committed to them.
Speaking at the event, Pastor (Mrs.) Rhoda.E.Ikede called on Isoko women to wake up from their slumbers in this new dispensation so as to know the person who wants to represent them.
Ikede also advised the women to decide and vote their consciences and not vote because they were given bags of rice or money to path with the future of their children.
Ikede said, “Enough is enough of the foolery. The mumu done reach, she declares, adding Dr. Nelson Oke Aluya is somebody that is well informed and has lived in the US. He is a citizen and also a Nigerian and an Isoko man from Okpe Isoko.”
“He wants to emancipate his people and open their eyes so that they will know what it means when you say somebody is representing his or her people.”
Ikede, a former Special Adviser on Education Monitoring to former Delta State Governor, however pointed out that Dr. Nelson Oke Aluya is not coming to sack Hon. Leo Okuweh Ogor from the House of Representatives saying, “it is an open something. He is a PDP member and he has right to contest”.
Ikede who is now a member of the Delta State Hospital Management Board, (HMB) said, “Leo is my person anytime,!anyday. We refer to him as Oyibo Isoko but other people should be given the chance as he was given. Right now, we don’t know whether he is going to a higher office. He cannot just plant himself there forever…When you get to a particular level and the people are beginning to feel dissatisfied, it is better you go to a higher level or blow out with honour”.
