The Nigerian navy on Monday, December 18, decorated Navy captain Jamila Malafa with the rank of commodore.

This rank is equivalent to a brigadier-General in the Army and with this rank she becomes a one-star general.

Speaking at the navy headquarters in Abuja, Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) Rear Admiral Henry Babalola said it was a thing of pride and that only few women have achieved such height.

Rear Admiral Babalola while commending Malafa, said that her elevation would inspire other women in the armed forces since there is no limit to what they can achieve.

Jamila Malafa on her part confirmed being the first female of northern extraction to reach this rank in the navy adding that this elevation has inspired her to be more loyal and dedicated to her duties.

Commodore Jamila Malafa was born in 1965 in Gombi Local Government, Adamawa state.
