Police, Vigilante Tango In Delta Over Arrest Of ‘Notorious Cultist’, Two Others

The Police in Ovwian/Aladja and Aladja Community Vigilante, in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State are wrangling over the arrest of a ‘notorious cultist and rapist’, Jeffrey Usivwo Oletu a.k.a, Jay-boy as well as one Karo Omojire and one other for the alleged initiation of three persons into a cult group.

BigPen Online gathered that the community vigilante group had on Saturday November 11 arrested the suspects and recovered from them in their homes cut to size single barrel locally made gun, a long knife with charms before handing them ( suspects) to the Police same day.

In a twist of event, the Police in Ovwian/Aladja through one of its female Divisional Crime Officers have accused the Aladja Vigilante of planting the recovered arms in the homes of the suspects.

It was learnt that the Police at the time of this report have detained the three complainants, Emmanuel Bezi, Ogheneganre Idisi and one Sunday.

The Police is asking why the Vigilante did not get police search warrant before searching the homes of the cultists.

It was gathered that the notorious cultist and his gang were arrested at Ekorhion Street in Aladja by the Vigilante who acted on a tip-off following complaints by Emmanuel Bezi, Ogheneganre Idisi and one Sunday to one of its members, Festus Umukoro that they (suspects)want to initiate them into a cult group on Friday November 10.

The Vigilante swung into action, got to their homes and searched everywhere and allegedly found the above listed arms.

It  was gathered that the suspect had signed an undertaken not to involve in acts of cultism before the latest controversial development with the police.

The Divisional Police Officer, Ovwian/Aladja, CSP Joseph Esegine said,” The Police is investigating” stressing that it is the State Command that will decide.

CSP Esegine however noted that nobody is accusing anyone pointing out that the police is only trying to ascertain if truly the suspects are cultists.

An Aladja Community Vigilante Source who craved anonymity denied the allegations by the Police describing same as “false” and lacking in merit.

The vigilante also accused the police of taking sides with “bad elements” in the society saying,”We don’t want to work with the Police in Ovwian/Aladja Division again. We want to work directly with the Delta State Police Command and the Warri Area Command respectively.”

Contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim said,” Am not aware of the arrest neither am I aware of the accusation.”
