South-East Governors Hold Peace Talks With Nnamdi Kanu
South-East governors on Wednesday met with Nnamdi Kanu and other leaders of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
Chairman of the forum, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, told reporters that the closed-door meeting, which held at the Government House in Enugu, was strictly a peace talk.
According to him, the governors have appealed to the leadership of IPOB and other concern citizens to allow them the opportunity to address the issues they have raised.
Governor Umahi said the forum would engage the IPOB leadership in its subsequent meetings to ensure all issues were amicably resolved.
The meeting, according to Umahi, who was flanked by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke, “deliberated on the demands of IPOB and noted their concerns accordingly”.
“However, the meeting agreed that these demands by IPOB should not be absolute, rather the South East Governors shall immediately engage the leader of IPOB, Prince Nnamdi Kanu and the entire leadership of IPOB to further meetings and dialogue with a view to quickening the resolutions of all issues amicably”, the governor said.
Gov. Umahi noted that the Governors of Abia and Imo States travelled out of the country.
Also present at the meeting were Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN and Evangelist Elliot Uko.
