Prominent Niger Delta activist and Executive Secretary of the United Niger Delta Energy Development Security,UNDEDS, Mr Tony Uranta has said that President Muhammadu Buhari appears not to be fully aware of the realities of the country he left behind in his 103 days sojourn to London.

Uranta who spoke in reaction to Buhari’s broadcast on Monday, said that the emphasis Mr President laid on Nigeria’s unity being non-negotiable clearly show that the President is disconnected from the reality of the present state of the nation.

He said that it is unfortunate that the Mr President’s speech was devoid of empathy with the sad state in which Nigerians have been battered through hunger, terror attacks and dishonest propaganda by the APC-led government.

While welcoming back the President from his medical vacation, Uranta rhetorically ask if Nigerians will have real value added to their lives by the President’s being back.

According to him, the country has been very unstable hence the agitations adding that it is laughable to say the country doesn’t need re-negotiation, debate or restructuring as being canvassed in many quarters.

Continuing, the UNDEDS’s scribe said that if the President continues his hard posture over the call for restructuring, the Niger Delta region and others geopolitical zones in the country currently agitating, may be forced to oppose the 2019 general election.

The terse statement made available to BigPen Online said, “Whilst one is sincerely happy that Mr. President is back to Nigeria after that lengthy sojourn in London, one is tempted to believe that he may not be fully aware of the realities of the country he left behind for over three months!

“His over-emphasis on the jaded mantra of Nigeria’s unity being non-negotiable, in his Monday address to Nigerians, sadly portrays him as being very disconnected from the reality of the present state of the nation, and makes one wonder if Nigerians will have real value added to our lives by the President’s being back.

“His speech was devoid of empathy with the sad state in which Nigerians have been battered through hunger, terror attacks and a bombardment by mendacious propaganda.

“It pains one to see that Buhari is determined to stand on the wrong side of history as regards the inevitability of Nigeria being restructured before 2019.

“It is evident from his broadcast that the single most important issue President Muhammadu Buhari recognises is the issue of our unity being “non-negotiable”; which is laughable because this country’s unity must be debated and a consensus reached by the leaders of the various political, economic, religious and cultural persuasions.

“A country where inequity and injustice walk the land freely is an unstable country and cannot stand the test of ethnic tensions”.
