Delta Assembly Summons DESOPADEC Chairman, MD, Others Over Unabated Workers Union’s Protest

  The Delta state House of Assembly has summoned the chairman of DESOPEDEC board, Godwin Ebosa, the Managing Director, Olorogun William Makinde and other management team of the commission over the unending crisis rocking the establishment. BigPen Online learnt that the House summoned the management of the commission in a letter conveyed to them on Tuesday. The workers union which has since split into two factions was also summoned to meet with the House Committee led by Hon Daniel Mayuku. Meanwhile, the two weeks industrial action and protest against the management of the commission over the non payment of allowances and other entitlements of workers have been called off. Investigation have shows how Delta State Oil Producing Area Commission, (DESOPADEC), award contracts ostensibly for "political reason" without budgetary provisions for such project. The development, which is said to be the reason for the chains of abandoned projects dotting every part of the oil bearing communities, calls for concern owing to the huge allocation that have accrued to the oil commission over the years yet projects are not budgeted for. There have been suspicion in some quarters that many of the projects however were awarded for "political settlement of politicians", their cronies and fronts, hence some remain as wasteful and having no direct impact in the oil bearing communities.   A police officer attached to Delta state Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) is currently in critical condition at University Teaching Hospital Oghara, Delta state after being shot by his own colleague in the leg in attempt to disperse protesting workers of the Commission on Tuesday. The police officer whose identity remain uncleared work as subordinate to one ASP Lucas Medudu who allegedly gave the order to his colleagues to shoot and teargas DESOPADEC Staff at the Commission's headquarters in Warri.
