The alleged diversion of the Nigerian Maritime University's Dockyard from its permanent site, Okerenkoko in Delta State to Lagos would triggered fresh crisis in the Niger Delta region, Ijaw Youth Council has warned. NUC Approves Takeoff Of Academic Activities At Maritime Varsity Okerenkoko

  The National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved the takeoff of academic activities at the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta state. The approval which has put to rest the controversy surrounding the renaming of the university community was disclosed on Thursday by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. (Mrs.) Ongoebi Etebu, in an interview with newsmen. According to her, NUC has given the institution the go-ahead to commence graduate degree programmes, and also to admit JAMB candidates. The commission has also approved three faculties for the University; namely Faculty of Marine Transport; Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Environmental Management.   Fresh tension has started mounting between Ijaw in Delta State and their Itsekiri neighbours over a purported memo from the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami (SAN) advising the National Assembly not to change the name of Maritime University, Okerenghigho to Okerenkoko, as proposed in a bill to the National Assembly. In a memo from the office of the Attorney General, signed by H.A.
