A festive mood has enveloped Okokpon, an agrarian community in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. The people of the community are putting finishing touches to the commencement of the installation rites of the community's armour bearer which comes up on Monday, October 15th, 2018. Ex-Edo NMA Chairman, Four Others Docked For Stealing N13.6m

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ), has arraigned a former Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association ( NMA ) in Edo State, Dr. Emmanuel Ighodaro and four other medical doctors before an Edo State High Court for allegedly stealing N13.6m. Other accused persons who were docked are former executives of Edo NMA, including Dr. Anthony Owolabi, Dr. Quincy Atoghengbe, Dr. Raymond Ogieva and Dr. Oseremen Gabriel Ogbebor. They were arraigned before Justice Efe Igbonmwonba for offenses bothering on stealing and conspiracy to commit fraudulent false accounting. Obaseki Puts Police, Army On Red Alert As He Orders Shut Down Of Disputed Obu Mines

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has directed the state police Commissioner and the Army Brigade Commander in the state to halt further operations at the disputed Obu mines in Okpella with immediate effect. This is coming at the wake of the proclamation by the Federal Ministry of mines that illegal mining activities are being carried out at the site. Citing security concerns, the governor said the decision was taken in the interest of peace and tranquility, pointing out that flouting of his order will be met with wrath of the state government. The Obu mine located in Okpella has been a subject of dispute between the two leading Cement manufacturers, Dangote Cement Plc and Bua Cement.   The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide has called for the creation of autonomous local government area for the Ijaw people of Edo State. The group says the people of Egbema, Olodiama, Gbarain, Furupagha and Okomu Ijaw Kingdoms in Edo state deserved to be under one Ijaw local government council. President of the IYC, Eric Omare made the call at Sabomi, Ijaw Apoi Clan in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State at the weekend while addressing a press conference along with Ijaw traditional rulers and the Ijaw Apoi traditional council of chiefs, Ondo State.
