The Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) can be described as a huge disappointment and monumental failure under the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. The agency which became comatose long before Governor Ifeanyi Okowa came to power in May 29, 2015 literally died in the intensive care unit when the governor assumed office. Court Adjourns DESOPADEC 13 Percent Case Again After 90 Days Judgment Deadline Elapsed

A High Court sitting in Warri, Delta state has again adjourned the lawsuit concerning the appropriation of the 50% of the 13% oil derivation fund accruing to the Delta state Government. BigPen Online recalls that the court had earlier in 10th April 2018 adopted final written addresses on the over N300billion law suit instituted against Delta state Government by oil producing communities in the state and adjourned to 10th May for judgment. The project which was abandoned for over ten years is near completion in line with the "SMART" Agenda of Governor Okowa.   The management of Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, (DESOPADEC) has issued query to over 300 staff of the establishment who partook in the two weeks along protest over non pay of allowance and other entitlement. Investigation have shows how Delta State Oil Producing Area Commission, (DESOPADEC), award contracts ostensibly for "political reason" without budgetary provisions for such project. The development, which is said to be the reason for the chains of abandoned projects dotting every part of the oil bearing communities, calls for concern owing to the huge allocation that have accrued to the oil commission over the years yet projects are not budgeted for. There have been suspicion in some quarters that many of the projects however were awarded for "political settlement of politicians", their cronies and fronts, hence some remain as wasteful and having no direct impact in the oil bearing communities. The Delta State oil Producing Area commission, (DESOPADEC) has been shut down indefinitely. The shut down followed unabated protest by junior staff of the commission for days. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DESOPADEC, Olorogun Williams Makinde in a memo issued on Thursday night and obtained by BigPen Online, said following the illegal declaration of strike and violent behaviour of junior staff, the commission is hereby close till further notice.
