We’ll Resist Violence Agitators, It’s Unconstitutional To Agitate And Blow Up Pipelines, CDS Tells Avengers, Others

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gabriel Abayomi Olonisaki, on Saturday declared that the military with resist violence agitators in the country including Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), which recently threatened to blow up critical oil assets in the Niger Delta region. The CDS who was in Warri to inaugurate 20 mounted gunboats acquired by the Nigerian Navy, (NNS Delta), at Warri Naval base, Delta state noted that although it was the inalienable right of any group to agitate, agitation laced with violence was rather unconstitutional and would be resisted. He said that the military would not spare anyone who goes against the constitution by embarking on violence uprising in the name of agitation. Warri Group To Niger Delta Avengers: We Have Had Enough, Please Sheathe Your Sword

  A socio-cultural group, Warri Rebirth Initiative, has told the militia group, Niger Delta Avengers that the Niger Delta region as well as Delta state have had enough of military offensives whenever there is renewed crisis in the region and therefore call on the group to give peace a chance. The group stated this in a statement made available to BigPen Online on Friday after its meeting to review the security concerns in the region and Delta State. Chairman of the group, Mr. Kes Agbosa, said that the Niger Delta region has had enough face off with the Nigerian Military, saying that each time there is crisis between the Nigerian Military and the militants, it is the  ordinary people as well as the economy of Nigeria and Delta State that bore the brunt of the onslaught.

Barely three weeks after an ambush on a military houseboat that killed two in Southern Ijaw creeks in Bayelsa, suspected militants have attacked a tugboat in the same area and killed three crew members. Suspected Niger Delta militants had on August 28 ambushed a houseboat operated by the Joint Task Force and killed a soldier and a civilian crew member. Suspected pirates have attacked an international merchant vessel at the Parrot Island area of Calabar in Cross River State of Nigeria kidnapping five of the crew, police source has said.
