  The Nigerian navy on Monday, December 18, decorated Navy captain Jamila Malafa with the rank of commodore. This rank is equivalent to a brigadier-General in the Army and with this rank she becomes a one-star general. Speaking at the navy headquarters in Abuja, Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) Rear Admiral Henry Babalola said it was a thing of pride and that only few women have achieved such height. Rear Admiral Babalola while commending Malafa, said that her elevation would inspire other women in the armed forces since there is no limit to what they can achieve. Jamila Malafa on her part confirmed being the first female of northern extraction to reach this rank in the navy adding that this elevation has inspired her to be more loyal and dedicated to her duties.

A nursing mother of a two months old baby was among the 150 prison inmates that were released on Tuesday by the Chief Judge of Delta State, Honourable Justice Marshal Umukoro as he concludes 2017 quarterly Prison visit.
