Alex Badeh Ex-CDS Shot Dead, Nigerian Air Force Confirmed
Alex Badeh, a former Chief of Defence Staff, has been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen on his way from his farm near Abuja.
Director of Public Relations and Information Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola confirmed this in a tweeted statement on Tuesday.
The statement reads: “It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce the unfortunate demise of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, who died today, 18 Dec 18, from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.
“On behalf officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, commiserates with the family of the late former Chief of Defence Staff over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest”.
BigPen Online reports that Alex Badeh, until his death was standing trial in a 14 counts charges bordering on fraud, to which he entered a “not guilty” plea for all counts.
He was allegedly accused of abusing his office by diverting N3.97bn.
The diverted money is said to have been meant for arms purchase in the face of worsening destruction by Boko Haram terrorists.
The late Chief of Defence Staff was expected in court in January 16, 2019, to open his defence in the alleged N3.97bn fraud charge preferred against him by the Federal Government.
