Delta NULGE Pushes For Speedy Passage Of Provision On LG Autonomy

The Delta State chapter of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), has urged members of the Delta State House of Assembly to ensure speedy passage of constitutional provision which seek to legalize local government autonomy. BigPen Online recalls that the State House of Assembly had earlier deferred voting on the provision on local government fiscal autonomy in the ongoing constitution amendment. Uneasy calm has engulfed Okrama-Oyede community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State after irate youths, suspected to be from Ibedeni in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, invaded the community over a land dispute. Crude oil was said to have been discovered on the land in dispute. Sunday Tribune gathered on Saturday that the invasion, which took place on Friday, left Okrama-Oyede inhabitants fleeing their homes and their properties destroyed by the youth. The Delta State Police Command has announced the creation of three additional Area Commands to compliment the existing ones, bring the number of Area Commands in the state to six.
