Ugwuanyi Effects Minor Cabinet Reshuffle

The Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has dropped three commissioners in a minor cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday. Those affected were commissioners for Information, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, Youth and Sport, Mr Charles Ndukwe and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mr Smart Ogbe. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Uwakwe Abugu confirmed the development to Government House Correspondents in Enugu. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that two commissioner nominees earlier screened by the state House of Assembly were sworn-in during the State Executive Council meeting. The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), Delta State Chapter, has alleged that there is huge scam going on in the issuance of National Drivers License by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who reportedly go about collecting outrageous sum from motorists against the N6,350 approved by the Federal Government for the issuance of vehicle license. The group alleged that officials of the FRSC within Warri, Effurun, Udu and Asaba were notorious for the unlawful collection which is done with impunity and as a norm within the establishment. An orgy of violence enveloped Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities, Delta State on Thursday morning barely 24 hours after Governor Ifeanyi Okowa met with leaders and stakeholders from the troubled areas. A new world-class fertilizer plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited, will be inaugurated today (Thursday) by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. According to a statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Office of the Vice President, the plant with production capacity for 1.5 million Metric Tons of Urea fertilizer is considered the world’s largest single-train Urea plant. The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday voted against devolution of powers to the States of the federation in a series of constitutional amendment going on in the senate. This moves have nailed finally the widespread calls for political restructuring of the country. The lawmakers however voted ‎in favour of financial autonomy for State Houses of Assembly and operation of separate account for local government councils. In a landmark amendment of the 1999 Constitution, the Senate has approved immunity for members of the National Assembly. The Senate also extended veto powers of the legislature with regards to presidential assent to bills. These were among the 28 amendments made to the 1999 Constitution as was passed on Wednesday.
